We all want to look the best we can, and our eyes are by far the most important feature on our face thanks to their expressive nature. Over time though, their position as the highlight of the face can be somewhat diminished by the fact that ageing occurs, leading to wrinkles, drooping eyebrows and the loss of volume in the cheeks. However, thanks to the skill of cosmetic surgeons like Dr Irshad of Dermashine, tear trough treatments can be carried out to rejuvenate the skin around the eyes and leave your eyes once again sparkling and youthful.
Why choose tear trough procedures?
Some people who may be having problems with bags or shadows under the eye who wish to do something about them may consider surgery. However, this can be expensive and many people may not want to go under the knife. Thankfully, non-surgical procedures such as tear trough treatment can be very effective too and for a fraction of the cost. This makes it an excellent for those who want to rejuvenate the area around their eyes.
Are tear trough procedures painful?
Most patients when contemplating any cosmetic procedure will obviously be concerned about any possible pain that may be involved. We’re happy to report that there is little or no pain reported by the overwhelming majority of patients. As part of the procedure, a local anaesthetic is applied in the eye in the form of a cream before the treatment begins. This has the effect of numbing the area to make it comfortable for you.
What fillers are used?
Tear trough procedures use a substance called hyaluronic acid. This is a safe substance that retains its shape and position much longer than alternatives such as collagen. Its safety has been confirmed in various studies such as East Grinstead’s Queen Victoria Hospital’s AM Morley and R Malhotra ‘Use of hyaluronic acid filler for tear-trough rejuvenation as an alternative to lower eyelid surgery’ .
Are tear trough procedures reversible?
Thanks to the fact that hyaluronic acid filler is used in these types of procedures, they are completely reversible. If in the unlikely occurrence that you do not like what your eyes look like after treatment, then it is easily remedied. Because hyaluronic acid is not permanent, it can be easily erased by injecting hyaluronidase. This dissolves all of the HA within minutes, returning the skin around your eyes to their original shape.
How long do the results last?
You’ll be happy to know that the results of tear trough treatments are long lasting, usually lasting from 1-2 years. Of course the exact length of time depends upon a number of factors. As well as the patient themselves, things such as exercise, diet, smoking and alcohol can have an effect. Once the results do start to fade, the treatment can simply be repeated.
Are their any side effects to be concerned about?
There are no major side effects that you should be concerned about. There may be some bruising and redness of the skin following the treatment, but this should calm down after about a week. For this reason, you consider the timing of your treatment if you have a special event or holiday planned.
